Mobile phone radiation induces mode-dependent DNA damage in a mouse spermatocyte-derived cell line: a protective role of melatonin. Int J Radiat Biol. 2013 Aug 19. [Epub ahead of print] Abstract Purpose: To evaluate whether exposure to mobile phone radiation (MPR) can induce DNA damage in male germ cells. Materials and methods: A mouse spermatocyte-derived GC-2 cell line was exposed to a commercial mobile phone handset once every 20 minutes in standby, listen, dialed or dialing modes for 24 h. DNA damage was [&hellip

Hi Dan, I was at the open house last night and agree completely with Sandra. I asked Dr. Asher about the precautionary principle and why SCL isn’t following that. His answer was that “the U.S. isn’t using that model any more.” So the ethical justification for dropping this important principle is essentially based on where our corporate-capitalist American model has taken us – the dollar comes first and people’s lives come second? Everyone’s doing it, so therefore it is okay? These are not valid moral justifications but a sidestepping of ethical responsibility based upon expediency and corporate groupthink which establishes [&hellip

Dear Madison Market staff, I’ve been a member-owner at MM for a few decades and would like to bring something to the attention of the general membership. Seattle City Light plans to roll out “smart” meters in Seattle and will be holding public hearings very soon (details below). What is a smart meter? According to Wikipedia, a smart meter is usually an electrical meter that records consumption of electric energy in intervals of an hour or less and communicates that information at least daily back to the utility (usually wirelessly) for monitoring and billing purposes. I’ve started a petition on [&hellip

All,       Attached are joint comments filed by B. Blake Levitt and Henry C. Lai at the FCC re: the commission’s ruling-making to update the RF exposure standards. We covered a lot of territory. We also filed one attachment. I couldn’t for the life of me get Henry to take first authorship on this even though virtually all of the heavy-lifting was his!    Thanks to Janet Newton/EMR Policy Institute, Jim Hobson, and Devra Davis for teeing this up and making it easier for everyone. Hope others get their comments in by the Sept. 3rd deadline. Best, Blake Levitt Levitt_&_Lai_Final_FCC_comments 2013 Blake_Levitt_Henry_Lai_1_

To give some perspective and encouragement, know that the empire of centralized power is coming down…Germany Rejects EU Smart-Meter Recommendations on Cost Concerns http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-08-01/germany-rejects-eu-smart-meter-recommendations-on-cost-concerns.htmlWhy the U.S. Power Grid’s Days Are Numbered http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-08-22/homegrown-green-energy-is-making-power-utilities-irrelevant?campaign_id=DN082213…and we have the opportunity to step into our power and create what we want to.  We do not have to compromise and give up any basic fundamental human rights.  Can you see what you want?  How do you want it to be?  And what would it be like to not have to fight some big faceless enemy anymore, but to know that because of your willingness to be bold & convictions of [&hellip

In the last month, I have been contacted by two women driven out of their homes by illness caused by neighborhood installation of water pumps with  variable frequency drives (VFD) or  variable speed drives (VSD) or controllers. These are solid state devices which replace mechanical motor switches to controlmotor speed and torque by varying motor input frequency and voltage.  One was a solar powered water pump using a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller to maximize charging of batteries which powered a water pump motor. The other was a VFD on a replacement deep well pump motor. When this pump was running, dirty electricity levels in the house spiked as [&hellip

Researchers find evidence that changes leading to cell mutations are much more prevalent among heavy talkers By Times of Israel staff July 30, 2013, 1:55 pm A study by Tel Aviv University has shown, for the first time, a clear connection between cellphone use and higher risk of cancer. Although cellphones are generally regarded as potentially carcinogenic, scientific studies on the issue have been inconclusive until now, a report on the study posted Monday on Science Blog noted. The study was published in the scientific journal “Antioxidants and Redox Signaling.” The results, while dramatic, do not establish a direct relationship between cellphone use and cancer development among users, [&hellip
